Teachers
 Do teachers have anything to talk about?

1/17/25

  • ●  We’re looking for new field day ideas: Archery? Get rid of chalk, fishing, candy, any carnival stuff.

  • ●  Tassia wants a cot/beanbag for her office bc there’s only one bed in the nurse’s office.

  • ●  Water cooler needs to be fixed

o Tell teachers that if they get talent show slips to put them in the PTA inbox!

    Grant Process
     Grant Deadline

    o March 18th, May 13th
Teacher just a reminder the next grant deadline is March 18th

1st grade PAFE grant for $6k to meet on Friday, Jan 24th, PTA (Jessy) to give letterhead and Jessy to run it over to Mary Quinne with PAFE.

PTA website: Can we make it look less like a Washington Elementary site and more like a PTA specific site? PTA page needs to be different with new pictures/$ raised/ movie nights/ Spirit Wear link/ sign-up genius to help

organize volunteers.
Can we add a link from WA LPOSD website to the PTA website so that people can find it more easily?

Community Grants
 Panhandle Alliance for Education - grants due Feb 1st-Mar 4th 12k-13k for books for K-2 book bags. This grant would be split with PAFE, so around $6k. These books are 20 years old and are great for beginning readers bc they are more high-interest than BOB Books. Early grade teachers really want these books for next year.

 101 Women Sandpoint - two yearly grant cycles, spring and fall.

 CAL - grants due between Mar 1st-31st
 Kinderhaven - grants due between now and Mar 1st We’ll apply, but not sure we will get any other grants outside of PAFE

Teachers leave at 7:55

Parents in attendance: Rebecca Resso, Liz Morris, Ali Baranski, Suzette Lopez, Derek Kelenbeck

Finances

 Jessy Update
OMSI was a great success with huge attendance. Jessy wants OMSI back and they can change curriculum next time. OMSI also paid for much of their visit through rural grants 1⁄2? This was partnered with Title 1 and was a big success.

2nd Ave Pizza- We’re not saying this is for the 6th grade field trip because we’re making less money. Field trio to SIlverwood? (not a good idea?) or Tree to Tree at Farragut?

Senior Scholarships
 Application - Amy completed

- 2 x $500 scholarships We have $1,800 to give, so 2 or 3 scholarships. Per Suzettte Lopez these must be $500 or more, choose a boy and a girl (not sure we can give 3 then) HS collects scholarship applications, black out names on all apps.

Heidi will do scholarship applications and decide by next meeting her grant committee including a teacher, officer, community member. Speak with Angie Dial or Jerilyn Meyer at HS. Due April 1/ decision May 1. Erin Somerville to help Heidi read applications.

Give physical check in an envelope to students and ask them to please deposit before June 30!

Amy and Tassia can present.

 Committee – Amy probably shouldn’t be part of this since she is at the high school

Boosterthon Update  Next Year

o Contract Done & Fee paid? -Yes, Jess please confirm YES

o Dates -10/17 (Run)

o Main Fundraiser Item ideas?? Tassia Hamer is working on building Ms. Halle (Outdoor Ed) a permanent structure. Looking to build a timber frame gazebo with removable sides and a woodfire. She has been working on this with KLT Bre who would like to collaborate. We would need parent involvement for the build. There is a sq. footage minimum/kid necessary (up to 30?) and a building permit would be needed. PTA wants to support and Bre is working on getting a quote.

Upcoming Activities
 Movie Night Tassia will give talk about behavior and popcorn etiquette since the last Grinch showing

was out of control!

 Friday, Feb 7th – Movie ideas? Moana 2 with a Hawaiian theme. Heidi has HBO Max account, but we need to be absolutely sure we can get this movie...not clear.

Jessy has all supplies, but needs to get bags for popcorn. Get Suzette’s kids to help pop ( they love it) at 4:30 Susan and Suzette can help.

No plastic water bottles given. Bring own or use water fountain.

 Talent Show - Permission slips due by January 31st and talent videos due by February 22nd - does that timeline work? That will give us 4 weeks to put everything together. I think the teachers show the video the week before spring break...

Jessy will not do again since she’s spent SO much time on it in the past. Jessy thinks we need new software for editing (Capcut?) Maybe 6th graders could help? Ali thinks Mr. Love at the HS could get his students to help? Suzette can help, but not do it all! Every video needs to be uploaded and watched for inappropriate content/music. We need a tech-saavy parent and Liz Morris wants to help!

Form about Talent Show videos needs rules in BOLD access on Google Drive Liz Morris will make video.

 Jog-a-thon – Dates for this? Need to ask Mr. Peterson about timeline. 4-6 weeks? Ask other schools what they’re doing. We support a longer timeline and will split up weeks between Heidi, Erin, and Susan so that Heidi doesn’t have to be the point person for 6 weeks straight.

 Teacher Appreciation for May - Who wants to head this up? Liz Morris wants to make it special. Liz and Susan to work together to set up plus Sign-Up Genius May 5-10

 Jess with website update
Ali Baranski suggests making committees for each big event so that one person isn’t doing it all. We agree this

is a good idea but will take some work. Parents could sign up on website.

 We need to replace Mr. Peterson’s Omnikin ball bladders - $187 to be taken out of field day budget – please vote and approve YES unanimously. Susan volunteered her husband Drew to help and run this station at Field Day.

Next Meeting: March 21st at 8:00 am

March 7 at 7:30 and 8:00
